Mouthwashes

Mouthwashes

Mouthwashes fall into two basic categories: therapeutic and cosmetic. While cosmetic mouthwashes can be appealing, I think they tend to have a less than desirable effect; often are very pungent, leaving the gum tissue and teeth sensitive. Therapeutic rinses can be helpful coming by OTC (over the counter) or prescription.  Mouthwashes with the “ADA ” (American Dental Association) seal have to provide scientific proof of efficacy and safety.

“Grandma’s remedies” of mild salt water rinse or baking soda rinse still prove to be as effective as many OTC (over the counter) rinses. When choosing a suitable rinse, look for the “ADA” seal or opt for “grandma’s remedies”.
