Welcome to what I call “candy season” nonstop from now, until Easter is over. We made it through Halloween, now onto Thanksgiving. So many choices and temptations for sweets out there. When you choose to eat those treats, ideally consume them with a meal or in a brief period of time and minimally rinse out after; brushing and flossing would be best. What sweet to choose? Chocolates containing higher amounts of cocoa are the smartest choice for sweets. They contain unsaturated fatty acids that are shown to have antibacterial properties fighting against those cavity producing bacteria. Also, research has shown cocoa can produce a “feel good” hormone release in the brain.
